  Rangers parted ways with manager Philippe Clement after the team's 2-0 loss to St. Mirren in February. Gerrard, who left Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq in January, was tipped to return to his former club, but the Scottish side announced Barry Ferguson as their interim boss for the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.

  After losing out to arch-rivals Celtic in the title race, Rangers have now stepped up their search for a new permanent manager and have reportedly kept Gerrard in their long list of head coach candidates, according to . The report adds that the club are also considering names like former Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, ex-Luton Town manager Rob Edwards and Russell Martin, who had a loan spell at Rangers as a player before managing at MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton. There are no favourites in the race as the Scottish club wants to carefully analyse before making their final call.
